Founded in the USA in 1938 by Hans G. Knoll, who was a German immigrant close to the Bauhaus movement and its emblematic figures, Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. His vision was clear: the modern architect was in need of modern furniture. His wife Florence Knoll had a decisive role since the early days of the company: her designs and her management led Knoll international to decades of success.
