The Plastic Armchair (A-shell) and Plastic Side Chair (S-shell) were launched at the 'Low-Cost Furniture Design' competition, organised by the Museum of Modern Art, and were the very first mass-produced plastic chairs. Today Vitra manufactures the comfortable seat shells of the Plastic Side Chairs and Plastic Armchairs in polypropylene, available with a large choice of bases, shell colours and upholstering possibilities. Customers can personalize their chairs and use them in the widest range of settings – from private homes to workspaces or conference rooms, but also in restaurants and cafés, indoors as much as outdoors.
