Anonima Castelli - The story Giancarlo PirettiCharles PollockAlky

Anonima Castelli

Anonima Castelli was founded in 1877 by Ettore Castelli as a cabinetmaking workshop.

Between the 1960s and 1980s, the company launched one of the most enterprising and innovative projects in the world, in collaboration with personalities of Italian and international design such as Emilio Ambasz, Rodolfo Bonetto, Nilo Gioacchini, Giancarlo Piretti, Charles Pollock , f.a. Porsche, Richard Sapeur, Claudio Nellini, Michele de Lucchi, Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas, Gino Gamberini, Enzo Mari and Mario Ruiz.

Anonima Castelli products quickly became iconic and were chosen to furnish important presidential offices of banks and large industries.

Anonima Castelli is synonymous with superior quality, which has been awarded many times, including three "compasso d'oro adi" awards. Even today, the company maintains a strong link with the history of design and perpetuates a legacy of knowledge and ideas.

Since 2019, a team of young talents is involved in projects such as reworking iconic products and creating new design objects, aiming to bring back in today’s market the same pioneering edge and fresh modernism that marked the company’s original founding values, also opening up to new unexplored paths.

Giancarlo Piretti

Giancarlo Piretti was born in bologna in 1940.
After studying fine arts at the academy in bologna, he started working as interior designer for anonima castelli, designing products both for home and office use, as well as for the community.

In 1969 he conceived Plia, one of the company's all-time landmarks, an iconic example of “made in italy” design.

Over the years, he was awarded the “compasso d’oro adi” twice: for the vertebra seating system - designed together with emilio ambasz - and for the piretti collection, launched in 1988.

Charles Pollock

Charles Pollock was born in philadelphia in 1930.
After winning a scholarship for the pratt institute of design, he completed his studies with a bachelor of art.

With Knoll's design team, he designed the number 657, which received high praise and induced pollock to conceive the world-famous Pollock chair, the best selling executive office chair ever, still exhibited at the louvre in paris.

In 1982 he designed the award-winning Penelope for anonima castelli.
