Michel Buffet Desk lamp B203

Michel Buffet, 1954

Michel Buffet, Industrial designer, was born in 1931 in Paris. After a degree in ingeneering and architecture, Michel Buffet started creating furniture. In the 1950s he designed a collection of lamps. Some remained prototypes and some have been edited in short numbers.
As a source of light it could only be white - obvious for him - and create different zones between obscurity, shadow and light. He hid light sources and created mostly indirect light, optimizing their performances and creating simple geometric or curved shapes. With an economy of material and a simple implementation, with mostly lacquered steel, it reminds the thin concrete sails of poetic architecture as the ones designed by Oscar Niemeyer. Presentations : 1955 – 1957 Milan Triennial, 1955 – 1957 Formes Utiles, French Pavilion - International Exhibition - Brussels, French Pavilion - International Exhibition - Osaka.
